This is a good buy if you don't use the EZ-Lock system and you've lost or damaged a lot of your basic tools. If you do a lot of a particular task, like polishing or metal cut off, you're better off buying just the pieces you need.

I leave a Dremel at a shared cottage and last time I opened the case nothing was there but the Dremel and one arbor, so this is what I bought to re-establish the kit. Happy, and I'm locking it up.

SOME very useful individual pieces.

Points of contention:

Part count includes many multiples of the same items. Im not so sure that everybody needs 3 dozen sanding discs.

it would be nice if some of the more robust cutter accessories were included.

oh god the case! what a poor use of space! luckily the part trays can be removed. eventually i shall relocate them.

I wish I had bought my Dremel when I began to build my model railroad. Not only is it a time saver, but it makes cutting so much more accurate. I first used a hand saw to cut lengths of track. And since I model in "n" scale (1 - 160), accuracy is a must. My hobby shop recommended a hand saw that they sold and I started to use it to cut track. Then, for my birthday, I got a Dremel. What a difference in both accuracy and time. I now have my Dremel hung from a hook on the side of my layout.

I actually love this tool until last month. I used it lightly on various tasks from cutting, grinding, polishing ( very handy for Harley owners BTW ) and even for drilling.

This has been a really handy tool to have being a cordless model until it just decided to QUIT WORKING? turned off while doing some work and it is through, it will not work at all? It had about 3/4 charge and I believe the battery has just come apart inside because it will not charge now either - really weird as it was not dropped or anything I just turned it off and now it is a really expensive paper weight?

I love Dremel products but I think there is a reason this particular model was not out long.

I purchased a look alike at the local cut-rate tool store. It was very inaccurate. Then I purchased the Wixey from Amazon... WOW! This is one heck of a fine tool! The magnets make it easy to stick it to a metal surface and read the angle. You can zero it out on the table saw or other tool and then place it on the blade or drill bit and find if they are true. I cannot believe such a small tool can be so handy! By the way, I also use it on my telescope to find the stars and planets.

I think this product will measure to within .15 degree accurately. I checked it against precision squares. However, 0 degrees should probably be set every time it is used. Even if it did not drift off of zero, the zero button is way too easy to push accidentally. Also, this device (or a similar one) is not a substitute for a good square. 0.1 degrees is 0.0017 inch per inch. Add in a little error and half a tenth for the digital step and we could have .003 inch per inch error, That is over 1/8 inch in four feet. No square worth anything is off that much.

I got this angle gauge a couple of weeks ago, and so far I really like it.

A few things to note:

1. It came with two batteries, which was nice, since I have a backup.

2. The only thing that I don't like is that I worry about sticking my finger through the display, as it is very flexible.

3. As far as I know, it's super accurate, but I don't have anything to compare it to.

I have had one of these for 2 years and love it. I Bought this one for my son in law. This gauge makes it easy to quickly and accurately set up any saw or any tool with an adjustable fence. Just put it on one surface, zero it out with the button and put it on the other surface (a saw blade or jointer fence for example) and the angle between them is clearly displayed. Want your jointer fence at 63 degrees? - no problem. Want to be sure your sliding compound miter saw is really cutting at 90 degrees? - no problem. Buy one, you won't be sorry!

I have thrown it to garbage after three days of use (literally).

Battery compartment cover was sliding out all the time and battery

was falling out untill I fixed it with electrical tape.

Then the flat spring, which holds the sliding part of the caliper

shifted from its right position and unit became lose and lost "precision".

When I tryed fix it the depth measuring rod broke off. What a POS...

$18 for three days. I use Mitutoyo caliper at work for last 12 years.

These calipers are surprisingly good for the price. This is about all you'd ever need to pay for calipers, it turns out, unless you need laboratory-quality results. I use mine for precision handloading and they're definitely good enough. The one minor complaint I have about them is that they tend to lose zero when you turn them off; close the jaws at 0.000, and then turn them back on later, and they might display as much as 0.002. Fortunately, resetting the zero is just one button press away.

I bought these calipers because I needed to be able to accurately measure the size of things, mostly diameters. You can't easily use a ruler to measure diameters with any accuracy. This is one of the most inexpensive calipers/micrometers you can buy. It has an English/metric button and it came with not one but TWO batteries and a nice plastic case with foam to protect the tool from damage. The display is large and easy to read. These calipers have a decent heft to them and don't feel flimsy. I have no idea how accurate these are, but I didn't purchase them to measure to the nearest 0.001. I've had them for six months and I seem to be picking them up to measure all kinds of things around the house. Very handy. Love them. I don't see how you can go wrong buying these calipers at this price!

I recently purchased a Dremel workstation. The project of the moment required me to use it as a drill press, with the help of a home-made jig. I found the tool to be excellent, except for a tendency for the bit to wander when the wood grain was uneven. This, even though I used a brad point bit. The fact that the tool holder allows deflection, may cause the serious craftsman to seek a more expensive/precise alternative.

Two examples of why Dremel is still the unquestionable leader in mini-rotary tools:

I recently bought a 4000-3/34 and I wanted to use the chuck I had been using on my old 395 instead of the collets. It didn't fit through the hole in the nosepiece of the 4000, so I took off the nosepiece and enlarged the hole. I wasn't satisfied with the 'quick-and-dirty' job I had done, so I contacted Dremel in Palm Desert in order to buy a replacement nosepiece. Without any questions they told me they'd send it right out to me at no charge as warranty service. When it arrive it was, unfortunately, the wrong part. Well, that's happened to me before, with other companies' tools, so even though they had been good enough to provide it for free (and the tool was working fine as it was) I decided to try again. And again, they told me they'd send a replacement at no cost with no questions or reluctance. Within a few days I had the right part, and I did a better job enlarging the hole (I subsequently discovered that the chuck they're selling now will fit the stock nosepiece).

The reason I had bought the 4000 is that my venerable 395 had broken down and I needed to finish a job without delay. When I opened up the 395 I discovered that there was a "flexible link" between the motor and the output shaft, and it had stripped. It was a short piece of flexible plastic tubing with internal splines to engage the metal shafts at both ends, and it was shredded inside. Initially I thought this was a regrettable design flaw, but I realized that it's just the weak link to prevent the user from damaging more expensive parts by challenging the tool too hard. Anyway, when I went to order the part, the woman who answered knew immediately what I was referring to and was able to complete my order efficiently. She even pointed out that, with the cost of the part being so small compared to the shipping (which was minor as well), I might consider ordering a second one. She encouraged me to leave the second one in the sealed package to prevent it from weakening from oxidation, and it would be ready to install if I should ever need it. Considering how old my 395 is, I'm not worried about that being any time soon. The parts arrived in a couple of days, and my 395 is back in action. And, considering how nice an upgrade the 4000 is, I don't mind having been forced to become the owner of two Dremels.

Dremel tools are well-designed and well-built, as long as the user works within the limits of their appropriate use (these are not industrial die-grinders). Craftsmanship is more a matter of patience and care than brute force. But any tool will require service at some point, if it's used a lot over the years, and that's where a manufacturer shows what they're really all about. With the kind of service I've received, I'd say it's no wonder that no other manufacturer has made much of a dent in the mini-rotary tool market. Dremel makes good products in the first place, and they back them up well. I'll never even consider buying a Dremel-like tool from anyone else!

I have had two of these in a week, both returned. The switch is a big piece of crap, the first one lasted one day before all it would do was to turn it on and off. I returned it and got another, it lasted two days before doing the same thing, I guess by variable speed they mean on and off, so I have no idea why the switch has multiple settings. I really like the shape and balance of this tool, very easy to use, its a shame they forgot about quality when cost cutting. The tool has a four year warranty, but the switch can't make it past day two, no more Dremel for me. I will try the B&D or Proxxon version, I'm sure either one will last more than two days.

When he first started it up, it vibrated and was so noisy he was ready to ship it back. He's had Dremel's before and always satisfied, just about wore his old one out. I bought this dremel for a very specific work related purpose. It is basically required for performing repairs on my laboratory equipment. Anyway, it works well, and even though it gets wet and covered with aluminum oxide, it has stayed working and in good condition. If you need this tool, you know why you need this tool and nothing I say will really change it. If you don't know what it is, chances are you don't need it. Basically, it is a low torque turning motor, used for polishing, shaving, and sanding small items, like fine details on something or assembly of small models. It comes with a nice set of tools, most of which I won't ever use. However, it is a decent tool and I got it at a decent price compared to the retail stores.

I could go on an on and on about how much I love my Lithium Dremel. It just sits in the closet all charged up for whenever I need it and does all sorts of stuff. I won't go into the stuff that others have probably already said about this device, but I would recommend that people (particularly apartment dwellers) purchase the Lithium powered one with an extra battery. Just keep it charged up and you will use it for random little things all the time. Oh and its really fun to use too...just wear your safety glasses!

First off, everyone will have their own experience with this device, so I wanted to make it perfectly clear that I am not agreeing or disagreeing with any of the other reviewers. In my experience with the Dremel 8000-03 10.8v model, I have had nothing but success with it. I use it for many various jobs around the house (i.e. trimming the dog's nails, polishing brass, drilling pilot holes, removing stubborn nails or screws, woodworking projects, etc). While I think this device is perfect for these types of jobs, I do not see it being durable enough or built for cutting massive sheets of drywall, sanding an entire table all at once, and so on. It has a great amount of speed and power and so many attachments you just don't even know what all this thing can do. I do agree with one thing another reviewer that said, which is that some of the attachments are a mystery. They are color-coded in the instruction manual as to their function (i.e. cutting, sanding, etc) but it does not tell you what specifically you would use some of them for or what materials they will are sufficient to be used on. I have found that going to purchase attachments and bits for it at the store or on each individual Amazon product page, you can learn a little bit more specifically what its intended use is. The battery life is average, lasting a combined run time of about one hour, which should be sufficient for most jobs. If it runs out, you can recharge it in about two hours based on my experience.

If you are looking for a useful and multi-purpose power tool that will do just about any strange or small task you can think of, but are not going to rely on it to be your only power tool used for a job, then I would definitely recommend purchasing this unit. If you need it for large jobs or are going to use it continuously for long periods of time, you may want to consider a corded unit. Hope this review was neutral enough to provide enough information to make an informed purchasing decision. Thanks!

Very easy to use and once charged I was able to trim both my dogs overgrown nails without any fuss. They are used to having their nails ground professionally so they didn't need to be introduced to it, but this items works wonderfully. Cheaper to purchase than 1 grooming session for my dogs so it has already paid for itself. Will definitely recommend this product to others.

I grabbed these because they were cheap, mainly for hobby use. For ten bucks, these things do way better than expected. Play is limited to a bit of axial rotation about the slide. There are two set screws you can adjust to eliminate any play normal to the axis of the slide.

I borrowed a pair of Mitutoyo's at work and decided to compare their accuracy. These calipers were generally within a thousandth of the nicer pair, so their accuracy is well within what I need. They do not always come back to zero when I open and close them (+/- 0.001"), but since they're $10 I really don't care that much. So for those of you that like things quantified, I would give them an accuracy of around +/- 0.001". If you need to measure something with more accuracy, then a $100 pair of Mitutoyo calipers will probably suit your needs.

All in all, a very decent pair of calipers for the money. Even came with an extra battery. We'll see if these last long enough to use it...

Might be a good deal for the price if it worked. Mine came and it was already turned on. When I try to turn it off it doesn't and actually adds to the number on the digital display. I tried the spare battery just in case this was a low battery problem and that didn't help.

When I could get it to work it did appear to be accurate 80% of the time. Sometimes though it would go out of whack.

I really like the price and the product seems good, which is why I gave it 2 stars. It seems sold and I figure that I just got a bad one which is possible with any product. I'm thinking of ordering another to see if I have better luck with the second.

I was concerned I might not be spending enough to get what I needed, but this turned out to be a great decision. For $12 this is a steal. You can spend a lot more on a set of digital calipers, if you need higher grade steel or finer measurements, but for the typical garage-mechanic or ammunition re-loader (like myself), this fits the bill perfectly. Measurements are consistent and, as far as I can tell, accurate. Construction is surprisingly good for what you're paying though the thumb-wheel feels a little flimsy and requires more downward pressure to engage than I'd like. I've just started using the serrated thumb indentation on the readout module instead of the thumb-wheel and that solves that little nit-pick. The display is big and easy to read, which I like very much. The battery required is, thankfully, a common one that can be picked up almost anywhere that sells "button" batteries (there's few things more annoying than when something like this uses some obscure battery that Radio Shack has order for you). With proper use I can see this caliper lasting a lifetime. It won't take the proverbial licking and keep on ticking, but again, for the price, it's probably just the electronic caliper you've been looking for.

The most enjoyable aspect of this product has been reading some of the reviews. As previous reviewers have pointed out, some of our fellow reviewers failed to remove the sticker with the 28.5 reading and mistakenly thought the product was broken. The value of this gift went up considerably with the amount of laughs we got with giving it and using it. Of course I stuck the 28.5 sticker back on the screen to see if my Mom would notice when I insisted she test it in our driveway. Thankfully she did. I purchased this for my sister as part of a car safety kit that I put together for her and it works just fine. Upon receipt I tested it for accuracy with my older electronic gauge in addition to my manual gauge and it's very accurate. It has a good grip and the angled design allows the thumb to place adequate pressure behind the gauge screen to get a good seal and an accurate reading. I will grant that it's been 6-7 months since the unit was purchased, so this review does not take into consideration the product's battery life other than to say that it's still working after 2-3 months. If the thing dies and I consider it to be premature then I'll return and add to this review.

Save your money for a better gauge - there's a reason this flawed gauge is so cheap. The tire gauge works fine, but it eats batteries. I purchased the unit 6 months ago, have used it 4 or 5 times, and when I went to use it this morning, it briefly flashed 'LL' on the display and then went dead - it needed new batteries. The unit requires 3 watch batteries, which would cost $5+ to replace, almost as much as the initial price of the unit. I'm just going to toss this unit, rather than sweat replacing watch batteries every 6 months.

The 5-star reviewers on this page clearly were a bit hasty in giving their reviews - especially the gentleman who was patting himself on the back for having figured out that he needed to remove the protective sticker from the display.

Of the 150 or so pieces, about 90% are sanding disks or something similar. This is a rip-off of the first order. I expected much better of Dremel (Bosch) than to advertise a 150 piece kit and then include mostly cheap pieces of sandpaper. There are actually about 21 distinct pieces, not even close to 150. There appears to be about 20 distinct pieces in the 160 piece accessory set. Back to Amazon with them. If there were a good substitute for it, I'd return my Dremel Moto tool also. I know, it is my own fault, I should have spent an hour trying to figure out the assortment in detail. But I thought that Dremel would play a fair and professional game with me. Not so, apparently.

Having a Dremel is worth nothing if you don't have the right attachments to get the job done. I purchased this kit at Wally World to satisfy my need for vengeance. Did I say vengeance? I meant... ummm.. never mind. The savings here is enormous. If I ever run out of anything I'll just buy another one of these and sell off what I don't need, huge profits are to be had,

My one suggestion to Dremel is to make the case a little more, well, square. It has to be stored on top of everything else because of the odd shape. Now, the handle, and holes for frequently used attachments is nice and all, but it does get in the way of storing the thing. And having the storage compartments split in two like it is makes it a little awkward to get the tools you need.

Either way, this set is perfect for any Dremel owner, you never know when you're going to need one of the twenty or so tools included.

"Poor quality, contempt for customers" 2010-03-03

I have bought 3 Dremel tools over the years, and none has stood up to moderate use. Usually the speed control goes: either the tool will only run at top speed, or, in the current 300-series models, it quits altogether. Also, the ball bearings Dremel boasts about are not sealed, so they fail due to the dust from whatever you're cutting or grinding getting into them.

No other power tool is so fragile or short-lived: you can get a decent 3/8" electric drill or an angle grinder for about the same amount of money, and they'll last forever. If drills failed so easily, the customers would riot and nobody would buy the company's product. To be fair, I've had the same experience with a Ryobi rotary tool I bought about ten years ago. But it was cheap -- only about $20 -- so I didn't feel quite so shafted when it stopped working.

With the Dremel, you pay a high price for a shoddy product. If you could replace the parts that go bad, that might be bearable. It used to be that you could buy replacement parts. Of course, you couldn't just replace the ball bearings with decent sealed ones -- because you couldn't get them off the armature. You had to buy a whole new armature.

But now, you don't even have that option. Dremel has stopped making replacement parts available!

So now, when the machine packs up, that's it: your expensive Dremel is now a piece of useless disposable junk. Your investment is down the toilet. Dremel talks a big game about quality, etc., but they treat their customers with utter contempt.

As for me, I guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and shell out hundreds for a Foredom or something equivalent. They're even more expensive, and they're not as easy to use for my purposes, but they have a reputation for holding up. We'll see.

I am very satisfied with the tool. It performs as advertised. Plenty of power to spare. Enough accesories to get you started with most projects. Very ind epth manuals to get you started quickly. Only gripe is that the power plug was bent. However i dont think that was a result of the shippng or anything on amazon's end as the tool case was sealed tight. So it was bent before it left the manufacturer. Either way its not anything that permanently hurt the tool. Quick bend back into place and its good to go.

So far I've used this tool to sand catches for wooden mosquito screens and knobs for cupboards. I've also used it for the main purpose I bought it, which is to grind down my dogs overly long nails.

I have two large thirteen (13) year old dogs, who are no longer as active as they used to be, and due to this, their nails were getting really long and therefore affecting the way they walk. I tried clippers which hurt them, emery boards, and even sanding by hand which took forever, but never I have achieved the results that this Dremel tool did in minutes.

I was a bit worried at first that the high pitched buzzing sound would scare them, but strangely enough, they ignored it and were very calm after they realised I didn't have the clippers with me!

I used the coarse sand paper barrel attachment to do this.

Bear in mind however, you can't leave the tool too long on each nail, or it will heat up and cause the animal pain. You also get quite a lot of nail dust.

After it's initial charge, the battery has not lost power from the door knobs,to the catches, to all the nails of 2 dogs (including front dew claws). This is the first re-chargeable tool I've ever had that did not die mid-job. It still has all 3 lights displaying full charge.

I have no regrets whatsoever about buying this tool.

I was looking around for a mini power tool I could use for my weekend hobbies. I didn't want anything real heavy, just something lightweight, but still powerful enough to work on things like small arts and crafts for instance. After looking around a bit, I decided to shell out a few bucks and get this particular model- and boy is it worth every penny I paid for it!

Why? Well for one, it doesn't have a cord. If you're working on delicate figurines on a small table, the last thing you want to do is knock one of them over with the clumsy cord- but this model has solved that problem.

The other feature I like best are the lithium batteries. Lithium batteries mean you can charge the Dremel, use it, and then just put it down and let it sit around until you're ready to use it again. Since I use mine only about once a week, I can vouch for the fact that this feature is worth its weight in gold. Trust me, cordless does NOT mean less power, and this is one tool that is not just for the guys!

I bought this WR300 because I need to check the cut angles on a number of power tools that I have. It works quite well, easy and fast to use. I compared it to a Bosch digital angle gauge and it measured the same.

It only has 2 drawbacks, it only measures Relative angles (between say the saw table and the blade) not Absolute and for me it is too small.

If you need to check the cut angle on a table saw, this device will work quite well.

I have compared the Wixey with 2 other brands of digital angle guages, and came away feeling the Wixey produces the best results. It seems much more sensitive to changes than the other brands. I could slowly adjust my angle with the other boxes and then eventually they would "jump" to a new measurement, where the Wixey seemed to measure even the slightest change in angle and was fluid in it's measurements. It is also the smallest and lightest of the 3 I compared, and has nice strong magnets that hold it in place. One of the others I looked at couldn't even hold it's place on my saw blade without sliding down. The others used a common 9-volt battery, where the Wixey uses a "watch" style battery. It will be interesting to see how often they need changed, and how much of a pain it will be when a spare watch battery isn't in the house. The benefits the other brands had was that both had a level feature to measure the absolute angle with the ground, in addition to the relative angle measurement. The other boxes were made of sturdier metal, but I don't foresee the Wixey having problems if you treat it as the precision instrument it is.

There is a basic problem with this product. If you on a site where your ears need serious protection, you are probably on a site where safety is a big issue. Audible distractions are bad enough for a driver (as NHTSA and others are now saying). On a construction site or around a jet engine, the distraction of music or talk radio could get you killed. My guess is most safety-conscious sites would ban something like this (except in New York City, where Mayor Bloomberg enjoys seeing construction workers killed).

I've been through four Dremel tools in 10 years. So why do I keep coming back? It's all that's out there for a rotary tool. Sears makes one and some other companies, but their's are even less dependable. I've changed the brushes on some of them with replacements from Sears (never seen Dremel offer them). When it works, it's a great tool with a million and one uses. But they just never last long. The push-down catch to loosen attachments stopped worked. BTW, how does this company sleep at night charging those prices for attachments?

I was using this new unit for at most one minute and the motor completely died. At first I figured the circuit blew, but was surprised to realize that the tool itself quit after how reliable my older model has been. I'm returning this tool to the store and will just wait to get my old one back.

I was waiting in eager anticipation for this product to arrive...boy was I disappointed when it did. First of all, it feels and looks cheap. I immediately charge the battery since by dogs are in dire need of a nail trimming and this is basically why I bought this tool. After inserting the battery, I turn the setting to "lO" and realized this was way too slow so I switched over to the "HI" setting and nothing...it would not even rotate. I thought perhaps I did not move the cheap feeling switch over far enough but I could not move it over any farther. I than took out the battery and reinserted it into the body and it turned on for a brief second. I realized that it would not turn on unless I had my hand pressing the bottom of the battery to make good contact! I'm in the process of returning it and will now order a Proxxon which I stumbled upon researching for another dremel. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra bucks on something else.

Although it exactly as advertised, I really didn't appreciate that the size of the flexible tube/camera is somewhat large and not all that flexible. Definitely not for tight spaces. If you want to look in a wall, you need at least a 3/4" hole. Depth of field is limited but again, for the price, I really can't complain. I also was perplexed that the image was upside down and contacted Milwaukee Customer Service. They responded immediately and let me know it was ok to "twist" the camera tube to adjust the picture to "right side up". I'm very happy with the purchase. Less one star only for the size (width) of the camera tube. Kudos to Milwaukee Customer Service for immediate response!!

I purchased the Milwaukee 48-53-0110 3-Foot Extension for M-Spector Digital Inspection Camera from Amazon.com to investigate potential pipe leaks with my inground pool before digging.

Since the camera was on a flexible cable, I assumed that it was really flexible; but was a little surprised that the cable had the flexibility of small metal BX cable. It was a little awkward to manipulate into tight spaces (I tried my AC vents and soffits as a test).

However; the image was really clear once proper manipulation is done.

Overall, I am satisfied in its performance so far. And once things thaw out from this harsh winter I will be working on the pool piping.

This is simple and works very well. It saved me from cutting into a PEX hot water line the first time I used it.

It is fiber optic, similar to a colonscope. The image takes some getting used to, but the illumination is satisfactory. You cannot steer it from outside the wall; you have to bend the optics to the right shape then insert the instrument.

This is something that if you have to have it, nothing else will do!

Get yourself one and save a lot of headaches.

I found it almost impossible to get a reading because this gadget would not fit tightly on the valve stem. No other tire gauge I tried afterwards had this problem. I notice several other reviewers had the same experience

I have two of these now, one for each car --and I use it for my horse trailer tires. Definitely better than a base pogo type gauge and best digital at a great price! There is no need to spend more money on a gauge and I have had my other (original)one going on 5yrs and it still works perfect!

This is a really good caliper for the price. It isn't as nice as my Mitutoyo but at 1/10 the price I love it.

I did have to adjust the battery contacts because the caliper would intermittently shut off while I was using it. A quick bend of the contact and it now works perfectly.

This is not Starret or Mitutoyo...it's made in China. No fancy polish...just a simple accurate tool easy to use. Vendor is darned good on price and shipping. If you lose it on job you won't be crying...just buy another one. Handy size for legnth/width and depth measurements. The jaw allows internal/external measurments of round objects like pipe and tubing. The projecting rod allows depth and height measurements like setting a circular saw blade. For the price, repetitive accuracy is excellent per zero set for the reloader checking case legnth. Most precision measurements don't require beyond six inches so this tool is pocketable (IF you don't drop it.) Tools like this do not come with a 'standard' as they are not field calibrational... what you do is keep a piece of steel around that you recorded measurement AFTER ZERO to track. Toss your micrometers and dial calipers away unless your building spaceships for NASA requiring traceable NIS history.
